Our iPhone Price Index updated - iPhone 6/6+ available
30 Jun 2015
We are extremely happy to show you the upadte of our iPhone price index. We prepared new price index for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
The index is built to be a comparable version of the Big Mac Index created by The Economist, but using a subjects close to our hearts - the iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
Apple, and particularly the iPhone, are pretty much the dominant product of recent times and the change away from looking at a Big Mac to an iPhone reflects the changing interest of readers and uses a product nearly all can relate to.
The index works in many ways. The default view we have shows the cost of the phone amended to incorporate the GDP (PPP) per capita of each country. We’ve then displayed this a percentage, showing just how much of the average persons wage is required to buy the phone off-contract, either directly from the Apple Store (if available) or from one of their official partnered carriers/networks.
Using the tabs will also allow you to view the price of the phone in US Dollars or Great British Pounds, both before and after tax. The point of doing this is so you can directly see just how much Apple themselves are charging for the phone before tax and also how varied the final cost is to customers around the world.
We really hope you like it.
