What's an IMEI, and how do I find it?

Every mobile device has a unique, 15-digit number associated with it. This is called an IMEI. IMEI stands for International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI). It will be included on your SIM card. But, most importantly, it's stored in a database known as the Equipment Identity Register (EIR).

Mobile providers and their operating systems use this database to check if your phone is locked to a specific network, for example, T-Mobile, AT&T or Verizon. Or if it’s unlocked and can be used on another carrier from the range of GDMA or CSM networks. To do this, it uses the IMEI number.

Your IMEI’s easy to find. Just type *#06# into your cell phone keypad. Or navigate to the ‘Settings’ menu and find it there.

Unlocking iPhone X and other iPhone models

Unlock iPhone X
