What's an IMEI, and where can I find it?

The IMEI number provides the link from your phone to its record in the manufacturer’s database. It’s stored in the central Equipment Identity Register (EIR), it’s unique and it consists of 15 digits.

Your IMEI’s easy to find. Just type *#06# into your cell phone keypad. Or navigate to the ‘Settings’ menu and find it there. You can also find it on your SIM card and under the battery in the back of your phone.

When you unlock your mobile phone, your IMEI is no longer associated with its original network. This gives you the freedom to switch to a different carrier.
