Why you should unlock your iPhone 6

If you’ve bought your iPhone 6 new from a network, it will still be locked to that original network service. A locked iPhone is a barrier to entry because it means you can’t access any of the deals competitors like Vodafone Australia, Optus or Telstra have on the market. Whether it’s a cheaper rate or better coverage, unlocking your iPhone puts the power back in your hands.

You can get full details of an iPhone unlock in our new guide.

What's an IMEI, and where can I find it?

IMEI stands for International Mobile Equipment Identity. It’s a unique 15-digit number that links a device with the SIM card inside the device. The first 14 digits are defined by the GSM Association. The last digit is generated by an algorithm. Your IMEI is like your phone’s fingerprint. It’s completely unique and every device has one. Unlike a SIM card which is linked to a user, and can be transferred from one phone to another, if unlocked, your IMEI is fixed to your device.

You don’t need any sophisticated software to locate your IMEI. It’s right there in your phone ready to find. Just type *#06# into your cell phone keypad. Or find it in the ‘Settings’ menu.

Unlocking iPhone 6 and other iPhone models

Also referred to as a SIM lock, network lock or (master) subsidy lock, a network lock on an iPhone is a software code that tells your phone to connect only to its current network. If your phone has a network lock on it it means you can’t get or use a signal with a different network.

So, for example, if you're currently on the Telstra network, you’ll have to unlock the device if you want to move over to Optus or Three Mobile Australia.

If your iPhone 6 is network locked and you’re looking for a fast, permanent fix the best solution is to use an online tool designed to do just that.

Mobile Unlocked’s specialist software streamlines and simplifies the process into just a couple of clicks.

Unlike other methods, Mobile Unlocked doesn’t require detailed information. There’s no forms to fill in and no long wait to see if your request has been approved.

Using just one piece of information - the IMEI number of your device - our advanced software works at-speed, behind-the-scenes to secure your iPhone unlock remotely.

By scanning the Apple phone manufacturing database, our authorized whitelisted software can access the information needed to release your phone from its network.

Unlike Android devices, the unlock for the iPhone 6 and other iPhone models doesn’t require an unlock code. It takes place automatically “over-the-air” using wifi or internet connection to hook up directly with the Apple servers.

Once this is complete, you can remove your old SIM card and insert a new SIM card registered with another network provider.

And the good news is, our service works for phones registered with both GSM and CDMA networks, including Telus and Sasktel.

Can you also unlock other versions of the iPhone 6 and other iPhone models?

Variations of the iPhone 6, including the iPhone 6 Plus, the iPhone 6S and the iPhone 6S Plus, are all compatible with our unlocking software. And they all follow a similar process. Further types of Apple iPhone passcode unlocking

Getting rid of the network lock on your phone is a top priority because it brings many long-term benefits. And saves you money. But there’s another type of phone lock that can also prove challenging: the lock screen on your iPhone.

Locked iPhone

While your iPhone passcode is a key security feature that serves an important security function, it can also backfire on you. If you’ve forgotten your passcode or bought a used cell phone and don’t know the previous owner’s passcode, you won’t be able to get past the screen lock stage. Enter the wrong passcode too many times and you may even disable the device. Here are some unlocking methods to help you regain access.

How to unlock iPhone 6 without passcode

How to unlock iPhone 6 with iTunes

Apple’s iTunes app is a powerful one. It functions as a media player, media library, mobile device management utility, and the client app for the iTunes Store. But did you know, it can also be used to bypass the screen passcode lock?

Yes, it’s an effective way to unlock your iPhone 6. But it has one major drawback. It requires you to perform a factory reset. Why does this matter? It matters because a factory settings reset erases all of the data from your phone - not just the passcode. If you’ve performed a backup, this may not be such a big deal.

In which case, the process is as follows:

  • Connect your iPhone 6 to your Mac or PC with the latest version of iTunes installed
  • Open iTunes
  • Press and hold both the Home and the top (or side) buttons at the same time. Keep holding them until you see the recovery mode screen.
  • Locate your device on your computer using iTunes. When you have identified it, you will see the option to Restore or Update.
  • Click the 'Restore iPhone' button
  • Click ‘Restore’ and ‘Agree’

  • This method will only work if you’re using macOS Mojave or earlier. For those running the operating system macOS Catalina 10.15 or later, the Finder tool should be applied instead. The same process applies.

How to unlock iPhone 6 Plus using iCloud

It’s not widely known, but Apple’s ‘Find My’ app can also be used to erase the passcode from your iPhone 6 and other iPhone models.

Like iTunes, it’s a multifaceted tool and used to perform lots of different functions. One of which is its ability to track and lock down your phone.

If you think your iPhone 6 has been lost or reported stolen, ‘Find My’ can remotely erase all of the data on the phone, even if you haven’t physically got the device.

This global erase includes the screen lock passcode.

It’s a simple and effective solution at first sight. But, like the iTunes unlocking method, the global deletion also includes all of your personal data, settings, other passwords and logins.

This mass cull isn’t to be underestimated. But, if you’re prepared for it, it’s an effective approach.

Here’s how to use it:

  • Open a browser on an iOS device with ‘Find My’ installed
  • Log in with your Apple ID login and password
  • Click ‘All Devices’
  • Select your iPhone 6 from the map
  • Click ‘Erase iPhone’

  • Your device must be connected to wifi or the internet
  • ‘Find My’ needs to have been actuated on your device before the phone was disabled
