What's an IMEI, and where can I find it?

IMEI stands for International Mobile Equipment Identity. It’s a unique 15-digit number that links a device with the SIM card inside the device. The first 14 digits are defined by the GSM Association. The last digit is generated by an algorithm. There’s a record of every IMEI stored centrally in a database called the Equipment Identity Register (EIR). It’s used by mobile operating systems to determine if a device has a network lock on it. And, if so, what network it’s tied to.

Your IMEI is like your phone’s fingerprint. It’s completely unique and every phone has one. Unlike a SIM card which is linked to a user, and can be transferred from one phone to another, if unlocked, your IMEI is fixed to your device.

You can find your IMEI using your phone. Just type *#06# into your cell phone keypad, look for it in the ‘Settings’ menu, or locate it under the battery. It will also be on your SIM card.

You can’t unlock your iPhone without having your IMEI number. But the frustrating thing is, even if you know your IMEI, you won’t be able to manually activate a network unlock yourself. The process can only take place through the central manufacturers database. Which is why you need whitelisted software like Mobile Unlocked that has direct access.

How to unlock your iPhone 13 Pro Max

Whether it's T Mobile, AT&T or Verizon, the mobile market’s vast and full of different providers offering different deals. How to screen unlock iPhone 13 with passcode or Face ID

Security’s a big feature of the iPhone 13. To keep your device safe you can set up a screen lock. Just choose whether you want to unlock screen passcode or Face ID and your phone will automatically lock when not in use. Check here for using iCloud account.


Set up Face ID

  • Open your iPhone 13
  • Go to ‘Settings’
  • Click on ‘Face ID & Passcode’
  • Select ‘Set up Face ID’
  • Hold your iPhone in front of your face
  • Tap ‘Get started’
  • Position your face in the frame and move your head slowly to complete the circle.

Set up passcode

  • Go to ‘Settings’
  • Click on ‘Face ID & Passcode’
  • Select ‘Set up Passcode’
  • Input a 6-digit passcode

Activate unlock

  • Once you’ve set up these options here’s how to unlock it:
  • Press the Side Button
  • Hold the phone at eye level and swipe up from the bottom of the screen.
  • If you have Face ID enabled, the phone will unlock automatically.
  • If you have a passcode enabled, enter it.

Forgotten your passcode? Haven’t enabled Face ID? Or acquired the phone from someone else and don’t know the login details? You can unlock your phone's lock screen using iTunes or the ‘Find My’ app. Both options will activate a factory reset which wipes your iPhone's data and settings so remember to back up your data first.


Restore factory settings using iTunes

  • Connect your iPhone to a computer with the latest version of iTunes installed.
  • Click the iPhone icon in the top left corner of the iTunes window.
  • Select ‘Summary' on the left-hand side of the screen.
  • Click the 'Restore iPhone' button twice

TIP: If your computer has never synced your iPhone to iTunes before you’ll need to put it into ‘Recovery Mode’ by:

  • Turning the device off (hold the 'Volume Up', 'Volume Down' and 'Side' buttons down at the same time and release when you see the 'Power Off' slider).
  • Connecting to a computer while holding down the 'Side' button.

Restore factory settings using ‘Find My’ app

  • Open a browser on another iOS device with the ‘Find My’ app installed.
  • Log in with your Apple ID and password.
  • Click on ‘All Devices’.
  • Select your locked iPhone 13, locked iPhone 13 Pro or locked iPhone Pro Max from the map.
  • Click ‘Erase iPhone’.
